Work experience is a crucial activity to undertake for any young person. It provides an insight into the world of work, enables a person to get a flavour for a particular career and also demonstrates the change in pace from the academic environment the young person is used to. Securing work experience can be a difficult endeavour. Meaningful work experience can be even tougher to secure. Below is a blog post by Ben Cronin. Ben described how he secured work experience with Positive Group Ltd. This post demonstrates Ben’s initiative and determination. I especially love this post as Ben has clearly researched the company and shown great understanding of how he can gain something from his time with them.

CONFIRMED: My work experience placement is at Positive Group LTD (https://www.positive.co.uk/).

Positive Group are a Full Service Digital Marketing agency, based in Richmond-Upon-Thames, a suburban town near London. They have worked with large companies such as Dixon Group (Curry’s PC World), Gordon Ramsey, British Heart Foundation and more to create and improve their marketing campaigns so that they are professional and aesthetically appealing.

The company offers the following services:
– Marketing Strategy and Planning
– Customer Experience
– Technology Product Creation such as logo creation, website design and development
– Search Marketing, whether it is Search Engine Optimization or Pay Per Click Advertising
– Content and Social Services from web pages, blogs & pres releases to infographics, videos and viral stunts
– Data and Analytics, allowing products to be changed and improved based on the people who view and use digital products

The work experience would be useful as it relates almost entirely to the course I am currently doing, Media Level 3 Cambridge Technical. The skills I have attained from the media course will be helpful for me to understand how the company runs and how the company makes some of their products. It will also be useful as it will be an insight to a professional place of work as well as a small section of the media industry and how media is used in the marketing industry.
